The Primary purpose is not only to reward academic excellence,but to encourage youth involvement in the Fui Toong on Society.This is a prize not a scholarship,to be awarded once and not ongoing through years of study for each recipient

Who is Eligible:

This  excellence award is only open to legal residents of Canada in their province of residence and who have graduated in a publicly or privately funded Canadian High School,community College or university within the award period of time

Applicants must be an active member of Fui toong On Society,either

A) As part of a family membership if under 18 years

or

B) As an independent membership  if 18 years or older.

Award Categories and Prizing:

One Cash prize will be awarded n each of the following categories :

(1) High School Graduate:$500.00CDN (Five Hundred Canadian Dollars)

(2) Community College Graduate:$750.00 (Seven Hundred and fifty Dollars)

(3) University graduate:$1000.00CdN( (One Thousand Canadian Dollars )

This award is Non-transferable and must be accepted as is.

Awards will be paid by cheque to each of the recipients.

Requirements;

(1) 90% average grade for High school

(2)85% Average  grade for community college

(3)85% average grade for university.

(4)20 hours or more volunteer community service at the Fui Toong ON Society

(5)Be an active participant in the society activities

In The Event That there is more than one qualified recipient,extracurricular activities(e.g Sports,Team Activities and volunteer hours will be considered)

1.Deadline for Submission of application will be held end of September of that year.

2.The society reserves the right to verify qualifications.

3.By entering this academic Award of Excellence,applicants agrees to abide by the rules and regulations and the decision of the Fui Toong On  on is final.

4.Each award recipient will be contacted of their award before the society Annual Christmas Dinner held in December  each year and will be presented with a plaque and cheque at that time.

Monday, July 1 – Canada Day: The Fui Toong On Society will once again again join other Chinese societies & associations to commemorate the Chinese Railway Workers of Canada.

Sunday,  July 28th – Annual Fui Toong On Picnic: Milliken Park (McCowan & Steeles, Scarborough). Admission is free and lunch will be served between 12:00pm and 1:00pm. There will be games and prizes for the children and as usual we will have many raffle prizes for everyone else.

Sunday, September 15 – Mid Autumn Festival: Come and enjoy a free lunch with moon cakes and pomelo wedges to celebrate the Mid Autumn Festival at the Fui Toong On building.

Saturday, December 14th – Christmas & New Years Banquet: This year the Fui Toong On Society will be celebrating its 35th anniversary. The venue will be the Monk Kok Chinese Restaurant at Kennedy road and Hwy 7. More details will be published later.

Awards Of Excellence: This award was announced at our 2012 Christmas and New Year’s Banquet and the 2013 submission deadline is September 30th, 2013. Please see page 64 of the 2012 Yearbook for the rules and regulations or visit our website for further info.

We encourage all our members, families and friends to participate in our events and activities throughout the year. Also, a reminder that the Fui Toong On Society is open on D’Arcy Street from 9:30 am to 4:00pm on Wednesday, Saturdays and Sundays.

Our 33rd Anniversary Christmas Dinner is just a few weeks away! This year it will be held on Saturday December 17th, 2011 at the Regal Palace Restaurant at 1571 Sanhurst Circle in Scarborough.

Reception will start at 6:00 pm, dinner at 7:00 pm, prize followed by raffles and prizes, then dancing from 10:30pm – 1:00am

Tickets for members and friends are $43.00 adult and $25.00 for children under 10 years of age. This includes a 10 course dinner, DJ, live entertainment and as usual there are lots of raffles and prizes. The main prize this year is a Blackberry Playbook 32GB and there are plenty of other special door prizes to be won.

We are pleased to announce that Fui Toong On in planning to organize a bus trip to the Eastern US states later this fall. The tentative itinerary and costs for the trip will are described below. Please check back for more updates.

Day 1: Toronto-New York

The trip will departure from Toronto and cross the border at Buffalo. Once entering NY state we will do some shopping at the factory outlets before arriving at our hotel in New York City later that evening.We will be staying at the New York Sheraton/Hilton Hotel.

Day 2: New York City – Atlantic city

We will spend the morning in Manhattan on an optional scenic cruise to view the Manhattan skyline, Liberty Island and the Statue of Liberty. After the cruise the bus will tour the city and view some of the landmarks including Times Square, The Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, The Hudson River, as well as the northern part of Manhattan. In the afternoon we will depart to Atlantic City, New Jersey. After checking into the Trump Taj Mahal Hotel & Casino, you are free to explore for the remainder of the day and can enjoy the shows, casinos or simply walk along the world’s longest boardwalk against the Atlantic Ocean.

Day 3: Atlantic City – Philadelphia – Washington  D.C.

We will depart Atlantic City in the morning and travel to Philadelphia. Highlights of the city includes the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Former Capitol Parliament Building and the National Independence Park. After sightseeing in Philadelphia we will travel to Washington D.C. to view the White House, Capitol Hill, The Smithsonian Institution, the famous Lincoln and Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument and much more.We will be staying in Crown Plaza

Day 4: Penn’s Cavern – Pennsylvania

the tour will conclude with a visit to the underground caverns at Penn’s Cavern (optional Admission). This US natural landmark has existed for over four million years and awaits your discovery. On our way back to Toronto we will stop at the Duty Free Shop before clearing customs.

The tour fee not including: Meals, Mandatory Gratuity US $8 per passenger per day, optional sight admissions is approximately US$68 per person
